I want to begin a conversation about a message that I feel is incredibly important. I believe coaching, teaching, and mentoring are some of the most important actions an adult can do for youth. I’m constantly reminded there are incredible teachers and coaches out there. I’m also constantly reminded we need to get better and a lot of us have a long way to go. But that’s okay, even the best coaches in the world recognize the need to get better. Too often it’s the ones who think they have it all figured out that are the farthest away from a quality influence.
My name is Kyle Hanna. I’m a former college baseball coach that has coached at the youth, high school, and college level for the last 13 years. I believe the influence adults have in athletics is so important and I want to speak specifically to those coaches and parents of youth level athletes.
What I’ve found is there are a lot of resources out there for those who desire to coach at the high school, college, and even the professional level. You can find books, podcasts, videos, and massive conventions all designed to help high level coaches get better. But we don’t have a lot of resources for the parent that’s helping coach their daughters 5th grade basketball team. There aren’t conventions out there for a parent wanting to help their sons little league team. But I believe that your role as a coach or a parent is CRUCIAL. It is so so important and I will continue to discuss how crucial your role really is.
So I’m starting the Youth Coaching Coalition. I hope you can find these articles and interviews a valuable resource to help you along the journey of a youth coach or parent of a youth athlete. Please continue to follow along as I discuss with others and share my thoughts on what I feel is such an important role for our youth.
If you find these articles interesting, helpful, or anything in between, please subscribe and share.
Thank you all!
